How to Calculate Probate Fees in British Columbia

When an estate is being administered in British Columbia, the estate is required to pay probate fees on the gross value of the estate for the assets located in British Columbia at the time of the death. The probate fees are calculated in the following manner:

1. If the value of an estate is less than $25,000, no probate fees are payable;

2. If the value of the estate is more than $25,000, but less than $50,000, then the probate fee is $6 for every $1,000 (or part of $1,000) by which the value of the estate exceeds $25,000; or

3. If the value of the estate is more than $50,000, then the probate fee is $14 for every $1,000 (or part of $1,000) by which the value of the estate exceeds $50,000, plus $150.

Use the Probate Calculator provided below to obtain a quick estimate on the probate fees based on the gross value of the estate.
